Joe Lear was born in Slatington, Pennsylvania and attended college at Kutztown University where he studied special needs education. Joe has worked in a wide variety of industries doing everything from real estate to carpentry and stone masonry. He has developed a unique skillset as a result of his diverse expertise and constantly applies many of those skills to his job as Ranger.

As a father, Joe values his ability to share nature with his two young boys and to be able to spend quality time outdoors with them. Aside from working Joe enjoys painting, mountain climbing, off roading, insect collecting, and hiking. He currently lives on 11 acres of land in a house that he rebuilt but he is planning to move to Buck Hill Falls soon to be closer to work.

There are many things that Joe loves about his job but being able to work with the people of Buck Hill Falls is very special because everyone is equally passionate about supporting the environment and works together to make sure that it can be appreciated by all. In addition to conservation, there are many other things that Joe loves about being Ranger, such as exploring the mountains and creeks, the Chestnut Mountain Scenic View, and running into wildlife. Joe looks forward to creating a sustainable and healthy forest across Buck Hill Falls.

Joe Lear RANGER

Hoshaiah Long was born and raised in Portland, Oregon where she spent most of her time outdoors and immersed in the beauty of the Pacific Northwest. She attended her first year of college at The New School in Manhattan, New York before transferring to the University of Hawaii at Mānoa to study global environmental science, oceanography, and environmental policy. During undergrad, and after graduation, Hoshaiah worked as a researcher at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration in their fisheries management department at the Honolulu office.

After graduating with her Bachelor of Science degree, Hoshaiah moved back east to Philadelphia to be closer to family. She currently lives in Philly and loves all that the city has to offer, but as a camper, kayaker, and enthusiastic environmentalist she is excited about spending quality time in the Poconos.

Hoshaiah comes from a highly creative family and was surrounded by all kinds of art and music growing up. She was a competitive ballroom dancer throughout elementary and high school and still tries to find time to dance and express her creativity. When she is not dancing, cooking, or exploring, she is volunteering at the Clean Air Council to help spread awareness about how flooding and climate change are affecting Philadelphia and the greater state of Pennsylvania.
